PCO Liberia
The Population Caring Organization (PCO) is a humanitarian organization founded in 2003 at the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana. PCO addresses the needs of vulnerable West Africans, especially Liberians and Ghanaians. Our mandate is to improve both day-to-day conditions and long-term prospects for suffering West Africans who have been displaced or affected by poverty and civil war
After seven years of experience in the Buduburam Refugee Camp, PCO is expanding its operation into Liberia managing a youth empowerment project in the township of Maimu. In Maimu Town, PCO trained 35 youth who were severely impacted by the civil war. They were supported in swarm rice cultivation and were provided numeric and literacy skill training as well as peace education and leadership development. Due to two unsuccessful haversts of swarm rice, the youth group has turned to the cultivation of cassava. Currently, PCO is empowering the youth group members to engage in Cassava crop cultivation.
In addition, PCO is planning a National Peacebuilders Summit in collaboration with Seattle-based NGO Global Citizen Journey.
